Hi friends,
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lizzie Karr. I am a dancer, choreographer, musician, writer, and artist. Welcome to the page for my new project, Secret Songs.
As some of you know, I direct a dance company called LizZieMoVeS. For the last year and a half, the dance company has taken a backseat while I wrote songs, practiced guitar/piano/ukulele/flute, played with a soul band, a rock band, and a number of other freelance projects. Currently I have an acoustic folk duo, Love Pigeon, with cellist Leo Suarez, and an electro-rock collaboration, The Buildings and Bridges, with producer-musician Benito.
We’ve written thirty plus songs spanning a variety of sounds, including the handful of in-progress versions posted on the Music page of this site.
Now that so many of these songs are ready to share, I’m coming back to my dance roots and creating dance for a live performance at the Garage (San Francisco) and as many cities as we can manage to hit (expect NYC, Madison, Portland).
The idea is to include choreography by local artists/companies in each city. This is where YOU come in. Please contact me if you are a dancer, choreographer, videographer, or musician who is interested in contributing to this project. Send links, resumes, and ideas to lizziemoves@gmail.com, and I will keep you in the loop with new recordings, etc.
Artists can contribute by:
1. choreographing a piece to a song
2. singing harmonies in the vocal section (this will be a small choir)
3. dancing with the core group in a kickass unison piece we’ve already choreographed. we’ll post a video on the internet and if you learn it, you can perform on stage with us when we come to your city.
4. creating a music video
5. facilitating a workshop and/or performance at a venue in your city
6. playing in the band in your city if SF musicians are unable to travel
If you are not an artist you can still contribute! Stay tuned in the coming months for our Kickstarter, or contact me if you’d like to make a private donation. No contribution is too small. Your donations make it possible to compensate the artists as best as possible for their hours of work on stage and in the studio.
Thanks so much and lots of love all around!
Lizzie
